Get Glowing Skin Naturally
My journey into natural skin care began with the use of essential oils. I've used essential oils primarily for health benefits from things to a common cold and headache relief. It was a natural progression to try essential oils to help me with my skin issues. I started by using Tea Tree Oil to help with my acne and redness. I also used Frankincense to help with my aging skin.
I have tried a lot of well known expensive brands in the hopes of helping me with my skin care issues, but alas I was still dealing with a lot of redness and acne. This led me to a path in search of skin care that was gentle without all the chemicals.
Did you know that many cleansers, serums, and moisturizers are full of chemicals, artificial colors, and synthetic fragrances? On average we put an average of 500 synthetic chemicals onto our bodies. I can't even imagine how much of that is absorbed!
Toxic Beauty Ingredients to Avoid
Parabens are used as a preservative to keep bacteria from growing. The bad on this is that it mimics estrogen that's linked to higher risks of breast cancer.
Synthetic colors are known as a carcinogen and a skin irritant linked to children with ADHD. These are banned in the European Union.
Phthalates are known as endocrine disruptors and have been linked to increased risk of breast cancer. In young girls, they can have early breast development and reproductive birth defects in males and females.
Triclosan is an antimicrobial that has also linked to as an endocrine disrupter. Primarily in thyroid and reproductive hormones.
Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and Sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) this is found in approximately 90 percent of all personal care products on the market. It's of concern because of how it mixes with nitrosamines, a carcinogen.
Here's what I've chosen to put on my face:
CLEAN
ART Gentle Cleanser has a soft and gentle cleansing lather. It has extracts from the Orchid Flower which can reduce the look of lines and wrinkles. It also soothes and conditions your skin. The cleanser has Frankincense and Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood which are both great for beautiful skin.
EXFOLIATE
The older I get, the more I've realized the need to exfoliate. It's the best thing to keep my skin looking youthful and smooth. Exfoliating triggers cell regeneration allowing for new skin to be revealed. Start exfoliating once a week and then move towards doing it 2-3 times a week. The Satin Mint Facial Scrub has jojoba oil, mango butter, MSM, aloe and peppermint oil. A little goes a long way. Get ready for fresh skin!
TONE
I've never been too convinced about using toner. I've always felt its a step I can eliminate, but aside from dealing with aging skin I also have issues with white and blackheads. So toning seems like a good option to combat these issues. ART Refreshing toner removes impurities without drying your skin. The toner blends peppermint, royal Hawaiian sandalwood, frankincense, lavender, lemon and Melissa oils. The toner helps maintain ph balance. I've found this gentle enough to use daily.
REPLENISH
I've mentioned already that my biggest concern for my skin is preventing my skin from aging prematurely. And having a serum as part of your routine is vital to help combat the signs of aging. The ART Renewal Serum is a blend of exotic orchid extract and Frankincense, coriander, ylang-ylang, bergamot, jasmine, and geranium. My skin has been amazing since using this serum. I was suffering from dry, flaky skin and that has all but gone away.
MOISTURIZE
Finding a moisturizer that is quickly absorbed into your skin and helps keep is plump than look no further than my favorite, ART Intensive Moisturizer. I apply this after my serum. The ART Intensive moisturizer as its the most hydrating that also helps reduce fine lines and helps your skin feels plumper.
If your not in need of such deep moisturizer you can try out the ART Light moisturizer. It's a light lotion that's infused with Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood and Frankincense.
MAKE-UP REMOVER
Finding a makeup remover that's not overly greasy or messy is hard to find. But I've been using the Seedlings Baby Wipes to remove my make-up. They are tough enough to wipe off makeup, but also gentle enough to not strip your skin. I also enjoy that it's a one-step process, making it easier to not fall asleep with full on makeup!
Natural Mineral Make-Up Favorites
Mineral Foundation
I was highly skeptical this summer when Young Living mentioned they would be introducing a make-up line. Thankfully I was able to try it at the Young Living Convention and I fell in love with the mineral foundation. I used to use a major mineral foundation and it never worked as well as Young Living's foundation. Aside from it being from high-quality and chemical-free, this foundation covers up imperfections without it feeling like you have a ton of makeup. And at the end of the day the coverage is just as good as it was when I put in on in the morning.
It has no talc, bismuth, parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, synthetic fragrances, or synthetic colorants
Lip Gloss
Young Living's new lip gloss gives all the shine without the stickiness and of course chemical-free! Its not tested on animals and formulated without parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, bismuth, talc, synthetic fragrances, or synthetic colorants.
Setting Spray
This was another product I was hesitant to purchase as I thought there was no need for setting spray, but just like the mineral foundation this have become one of my favorite products. I spray this on my makeup brush that I use to put on the YL mineral foundation. It nourishes my skin and helps set my makeup. And the smell is amazing made with essential oils.
Lipstick
I'm more of a chapstick kind of girl as I have found most lipsticks are too heavy and dry my lips. The Young Living Lipstick feels like I have not lipstick on and gives me a natural color.
Mascara
This mascara is infused with Lavender essential oil. The Lavender oil will help nourish and condition your lashes. Its smudge free and last all day. No parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, bismuth, talc, synthetic fragrances, or synthetic dyes.
